Safe Schools Policy

Before anyone can volunteer with our school, they must fill out the volunteer application. Depending on the capacity in which you'd like to serve, you may need to complete a criminal history check and fingerprinting as well. Our volunteer tier document explains the requirements for each tier.

State law requires all individual working with children to complete a brief mandated reporter training. The training slides and signature sheet can be found here or in the front office.

Be sure to log your volunteer hours in the front office or on our volunteer tracking form.  We can use these hours when applying for grants!

2018-19 School Calendar and Daily Schedules

Peace Valley classes are 5 days a week Monday through Friday with a shortened day on Thursdays for weekly faculty meetings and on-going professional development.

Our start/dismissal times are staggered for various reasons, but primarily to ease traffic during peak times and not disrupt the flow on Federal Way. Peace Valley will provide, free of charge, extended care on Thursdays for those families who have a PM Kindergarten student as well as other children attending Peace Valley. All students who are not picked up by 2:35 on Thursdays and 3:20 on all other days, will be checked into aftercare.

Students taking the school bus will arrive at the earlier start time of 8:30 and be allowed supervised play outside until brought inside by class teachers.

Bus Transportation

Peace Valley Charter has contracted with Brown Bus Company for transportation services. If you are interested in your child riding the school bus as a regular means of transportation to and from school, and you haven't already filled out a form, please contact Brown Bus at with your   Transportation Form.    Brown will be verifying eligibility when they receive the application.

General Bus Information

Students who live within Peace Valley’s enrollment boundary will be given priority on the bus. Our bus routes will run mornings and afternoons for the whole school at once, not midday. Thursdays the bus will leave the school 45 minutes earlier than the other days because it is our early release day. The bus will not go door to door but will pick up children from safe designated group pickup points (chosen by Brown Bus Company) within our attendance area.

Parents are responsible for the safety of their children before they get on the bus and once they are dropped off. Kindergarten children must have a parent/adult or older child/approved person to meet them at the bus door, or they will be kept on the bus and returned to the school. Once the routes are planned, estimated pick-up drop off times will be published on Brown’s website. Any quesiton regarding bus times or routes should be directed to Brown Bus Company.

Student School Supplies (Donation)

Peace Valley uses natural, high-quality artistic tools and materials for your child—and provides uniform supplies for all students. These supplies are an integral part of a Waldorf curriculum.

  • Waldorf materials are hard-to-find and more expensive than traditional school supplies when purchased independently
  • As a school, Peace Valley can receive a discount when purchasing these supplies in bulk
  • Rather than provide a list of school supplies for families to shop for, we are removing the hassle and asking each family to donate toward the materials fund (suggested donation $140 per student), the actual cost will be greater.
  •  Donations can be made at any time and multiple payments over several months, if necessary.

Money donated is tax-deductible and helps to cover the purchase of: main lesson books (in lieu of textbooks), watercolor paper, beeswax block and stick crayons, modeling beeswax and clay, colored pencils, watercolor paints, brushes, calligraphy pens and paper, knitting yarn, raw wool, Eurythmy shoes, and more.

ANY amount donated will assist us with our school supplies for the year. We thank you for your contribution. Donations can be made at any time. Students will receive materials needed regardless of donations received. If you'd like to provide your own materials you may request a materials list.

Wildflowers Playgarden Early Childhood Program (children ages 3-6)

Wildflowers will follow a combination of Waldorf Early Childhood Education and Forest School model (see for an example) for ages 3-6. It will involve lots of open-ended outdoor play, as well as singing, storytelling, pretend play, puppet-shows, cook and dramatic play. Each day will have a strong rhythm and children will have the option to do daily tasks along with the teachers. Children will have a large amount of time outdoors year-round. Through child-led adventures, students receive a seasonally based educational experience and connected to our local environment and community and deepen their curiosity and gratitude for the natural world. It will be located on Peace Valley's Campus. This will provide a strong foundation for their transfer into Kindergarten or First Grade.

Before and Aftercare Information

The Before/Aftercare program of Peace Valley Charter School (PVCS) and the Wildflowers Playgarden (WP) exists to support the needs of families as well as maintain the rhythms, reverence, and rituals established by the schools. These programs are operated by the Peace Valley Education Foundation (PVEF), which has the mission “to support [the schools] by ensuring its growth and development, thereby creating a thriving school community”. The before/aftercare and enrichment programs are available to PVCS and WP students, ages 5 to 13, as well as other families within the community who are interested in having their children experience some of the Waldorf methods. Enrollment in the program begins with a completed application and a $25 application fee.

General Donations

We have a large number of items to purchase before school starts, classroom desks and furniture, office supplies, computers, sports equipment, gardening supplies, and the list goes on and on. The state funds do not cover any of these expenses. We are using a loan to purchase what we need before we open. Donation received will help us depend less on this loan as well as the long-term interest on the loan.

Donations can be made online using Secure Instant Payments via echeck or credit card.
